Church Council

Church Council is the administrative body of First United Methodist Church, and it receives reports from every area of our congregation’s work and ministry. Every member and constituent of the church is welcome and encouraged to attend Church Council meetings to keep informed of the mission, ministry, and administration of our congregation.

Our next Church Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m. We meet in Wesley Hall.

February Church Council Meeting Highlights

The Committee on Finance continues to work on our budget and strategies for future financial sustainability. We ended 2023 with a deficit (approximately $22,700) of expenses over income. Our expenses in 2023 averaged approximately $24,130 per month. At the end of January, the balance of budgetary funds available for church operations was $19,923. If the current trends continue, we would expect another deficit for 2024.

The Board of Trustees continues to work on several matters relating to our facilities, including the water leak and resulting damage. Currently, the matter is in review by the insurance company.

The Mission Committee reported that 45 diapers and 5 gowns were sewn and will go to Midwest Mission Distribution Center. We are planning for a potential trip to the center this Fall.

United Women in Faith (formerly UMW) plan to do their ham loaf sale in May.

Susannah Wesley Nursery School reported that we currently have 42 students enrolled. Several classrooms were impacted by the water leak, but we continued operations with some creative use of space.

The Bridges of Hope Store plans to re-open on March 2.
