The Mission Team from Mt. Vernon First UMC arrived late Friday night, due to a delay in Atlanta.  However, our Mission Guatemala contact, Max, met us at the airport around 10:00 p.m. with two mini-buses driven by, for those who remember from previous trips, Eddie and Elmer.  We stayed in a hotel near the airport overnight.  All report that they slept well, and all shuffeled in for breakfast around 8:00 (CST, which is not Central Daylight Time, so we are an hour behind you.)

Our team consists of 8 people from First UMC, one from St. Paul's UMC, and three from Trinity UCC in town.  Three of us have been here before, several others are seasoned travellers, but several are first-timers outside the U.S.  At any rate, all are adjusting well to new language and new customs.  Here in the capital city, they are surprised to see McDonald's, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and even P. F. Chang's.  It will not be that way the rest of the week.

In the middle of the day we will go to the town of Antigua for a bit of sight-seeing, then on to Mission Guatemala's compound in Panajachel in the western highlands.  Even today in Guatemala City it is mild and not humid; it should be more so up in the mountains.

So, we are doing well and moving along on schedule.  Monday we will work on an ongoing school project.
